Mengqiao is a network-maritime-complexity enthusiast. Currently, she is interested in quantitatively understanding the evolving complex system of global maritime transportation and its interaction with the development of international trade, based on advanced complex network analyses and big empirical shipping datasets. Indeed, maritime transportation is fundamental to the world economy, as around 80% of global trade by volume is transported by sea each year.
Mengqiao is an associate professor at the School of Economics and Management, Dalian University of Technology, China. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Shipping Management, a Master’s degree in Transportation Planning and Management, and Ph.D. in Management Science and Engineering, at Dalian Maritime University , the key maritime institution under the Ministry of Transport, People’s Republic of China.
